CommoditiesTrader  7/12/2025 4:44:53 AM
Trump's threat to impose a 50% tariff on copper imports has driven the price of copper way up in the U.S. low everywhere else. Analysts say the U.S. could be paying $15,000/metric ton while the rest of the world pays $10,000/metric ton. Sources: https://www.cnbc.com/2025/07/09/us-copper-price-premium-economic-consequences.html Will the copper using refrigerator companies eat the tarriffs.

UK, France and Canada threaten action on Israel over Gaza
Mark  5/21/2025 8:28:50 AM
As some posters on hackernews have pointed out, the Europeans and some Muslim State's leaders should also be issued arrest warrants by the ICC. This is fair. Sources: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cn9j1052p2yo

    International Bodies
    Mark  5/21/2025 10:15:14 AM

This begs the question are there any international bodies documenting the casualty numbers in Gaza? Where do the casualty numbers come from? The Gazan's themselves? An independent body needs to be present in Gaza.

Trump wants Walmart to 'Eat the tarrifs'
Mark A  5/18/2025 6:42:08 AM
This story might sound unimportant but it is relevant. As you know Walmart is owned by Republicans. I dont know if the Walmart owners support Trump but either way they are pushovers. If they are not Trump supporters they should tell him to Fuckoff about the tarrifs. But that's unlikely. Most Republican in business want it both ways. They want to support Trump but want their clients to pay the tarrifs. Opinion: I don't down how I feel about the UN
Anonymous  5/5/2025 6:18:21 AM
I don't down how I feel about the UN. On one hand it makes sense to have a political body that covers the world. But on the other. Do we all really have the same agenda. The world might be under hegemonic control of European-based/derived countries.

Cambridge Analytica, Facebook scandal
The King  5/4/2025 12:37:26 AM
The Cambridge Analytica, Facebook scandal was recently brought up at the FTC, Meta trial where Facebook brushed it aside by saying that they didn't lose a significant amount of users over it.

The scandal was over an app that collected information from Facebook users who willingly signed up for the data sharing told it was only for academic purposes. The truth is it wasn't and it harvested not only their profiles, but their friends graph and likes.

Its important to remember this event. Because it shows how Facebooks behavior borders on criminal. I understand that users signed up for iit, but not to be sold to some political campaign organization. Even if that wasn't directly Facebook's fault. They allowed app makers to get thieir Facebook graphs and likes withouth any safety measuers in place. This story is not over.

Interesting what was said about Whatsapp
    The King  4/30/2025 3:30:32 PM

Meta COO said, “Out of all the potential buyers, I thought Google and Apple would be the worst ones because they already ran the operating systems of the phones,”

It sounds like the reason they bought Whatsapp wasn't so much because of Whatsapp being a threat, but because Google and Apple could become much bigger threads if THEY bought Whatsapp.

Google is abandoning Samsung's HBM3E process
mamaro  4/28/2025 10:06:12 AM
Samsung is not only not getting new HBM clients, but it is losing existing ones. Google is abandoning Samsung's HBM3E process because it doesn't conform to NVDIA's qualification tests. Google is instead partnering with Micron for its HBM. And Samsung's older HBM processes: HBM2, HBM2E are being overshadowed by Chinese companies. Anonymous  4/7/2025 7:49:41 AM

Seems a bit illogical. Sources: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/07/technology/trump-google-search-antitrust.html

Building your own laptops
mamaro  9/22/2024 9:26:31 AM
Idea. Democratize the laptop. Why can't we get laptop parts and let us build our own. I mean if the price of laptops are so low then we should be able to get the parts and build one for a decent price right. I get it, parts are tied to the manufacture. And the manufacturer has economic of scale, they probably can make them cheap because they have all the machines to build the laptop.

The yield curve is inverted which signals a recession
mamaro  9/19/2024 3:20:56 AM
The yield curve has been inverted for 2 years. An inverted yield curve means when the 2-Year Tresurie rates are higher than 10-Year Treasuries. This is because investors idemand a higher yield because they see more risk in the near future. However the labor market seems strong, so it might not matter.

Qualcomm exclusivity deal with Microsoft ends Mediatek steps in
mamaro  9/6/2024 2:57:22 AM
Qualcomm exclusivity deal with Microsoft ends at the end of 2024. Mediatek might be providing ARM chips to Microsoft after that. Mediatek CEO friends with Nvidia's CEO who might provide GPUs for Microsoft. This would be plus for Mediatek and a minus for Qualcomm because they duo could provide technology that would both work well with AI and gaming. Qualcomms Snapdragon doesn't work with games.
